The Directors of DEKS, Dr. Elizabeth Karol and Dr. Dianne Smith are architects and interior architects who together bring over 40 years of research experience to contemporary social and environmental challenges. 

 

DEKS's work facilitates the design of residential environments, particularly for people with impeded cognitive function. 

 

Unlike mainstream design services, DEKS provides collaborators with a unique approach to developing appropriate design strategies. DEKS generates its knowledge base and processes from  continually sourcing data from literature, built exemplars, as well as undertaking in-house investigations.

Whilst not ignoring the pragmatic aspects, DEKS focuses on the intangible aspects of accommodation, which enhance user experiences and their sense of wellbeing.

DEKS brokers collaborations with individuals and/or organisations who actively contribute to the belief that the design of a home can be therapeutic, particularly for people with impeded cognitive functioning.

 

Each design, research and construction collaboration results in residential projects that address fundamental issues of well-being for this poorly serviced yet growing sector of society.
